A stump keeps a yard stuck. You mow around it for years, the mower blade finds it once a season, and the spot where a tree used to be never turns back into lawn. Around Gastonia most stumps are pine and sweetgum, and sweetgum will keep sending up shoots as long as the stump sits there.

Grinding fits a finished yard. The machine works the stump into chips below grade and leaves the roots to rot in place, so the lawn around it stays a lawn. There we bring the excavator and root rake, take the stump and the root ball out whole, and leave ground you can compact and build on.
The dirt here is Cecil series red clay, and it helps more than it hurts. Clay holds a stump firm while the wheel works, and the ground around the hole keeps its shape. We grind below grade so the chips and the crown sit under the surface. What is left is a shallow bowl of chips and clay.
Rake the chips out and fill with soil if you want grass the same year. Chips left in the hole settle as they rot, and the spot sinks a little each season. We tell you which way fits your plans at the estimate, and we can haul the grindings off or rake them in before we leave.
