Forestry Mulching
Forestry mulching grinds brush and small trees into a mulch layer where they stand. Nothing gets hauled off and nothing gets burned.
Land clearing in Belwood usually means woods and farm ground on Piedmont red clay. The town's name means beautiful woods, and it sits in northeastern Cleveland County at about 1,020 feet. Its 12.3 square miles held just 857 people at the 2020 census, and the town was incorporated in 1978. We clear this ground for pasture, home sites, driveways and hunting tracts, and we price each job on site.
We are a veteran owned, fully insured company based in Shelby, about 14 miles south of Belwood on NC 18. That highway, Fallston Road, runs right through town, so our lowboy trailer brings the machines up one road. We work about 25 miles around Shelby, which covers Belwood and the Lincoln County side of its northeast line. Wooded lots fit forestry mulching and open fields fit bush hogging, and every estimate is free and on site.

Belwood's northeast border follows the Lincoln County line. NC 18 (Fallston Road) passes through town on its way south to Shelby, the county seat. Toluca lies to the north and takes in parts of both Lincoln and Cleveland counties. Fallston, a town of 627 people at the 2020 census, sits to the south. Casar, a small town of 305 in northern Cleveland County, lies to the west. Lawndale sits to the southwest along the First Broad River.
Where the ground around Belwood is Cecil soil, it lies on Piedmont uplands. The NRCS lists loblolly pine, Virginia pine, red oak, white oak and blackgum for wooded Cecil ground. That mix is what our mulcher grinds down and our grapple trucks haul off. Cleveland County also takes in part of the South Mountains, the highest and most rugged of the Piedmont's isolated ranges.
Under G.S. 113A-57, disturbing more than one acre on a tract takes an approved erosion and sedimentation control plan. A home site plus a long driveway can pass that line on a farm tract. The plan goes on file 30 or more days before work starts, so we check the acreage at the estimate.
Land past Belwood's northeast line lies in Lincoln County, which runs its own delegated erosion control program. NCDEQ says to contact a local program directly to confirm whether a site falls within its jurisdiction. If your tract crosses the line near Toluca, check with Lincoln County first. G.S. 87-122 requires notice to NC 811 at least three full working days before digging. We make that call before any culvert or stump excavation, on either side of the line.
Cleveland County had 872 farms averaging about 120 acres in the 2022 Census of Agriculture. Those farms held 33,513 acres of pasture and 20,534 acres of woodland. That puts about a third of the county's farm land in pasture and about a fifth in woods. NCpedia lists the Belwood Antique Tractor and Engine Show among the county's popular annual festivals. Left a few years without mowing or grazing, a pasture can fill with briars and young pine.
Light regrowth goes down with bush hogging, and the mulcher and root rake handle thicker stems and stumps. The Shelby 2 NW station's 1991 to 2020 rain normal is 47.89 inches a year. Tight red clay subsoil takes in that rain slowly once it is wet. Wet clay stops machine work until it dries, so we set a date after the estimate. Grapple trucks haul off the brush, and the field is left ready for you to seed.

Highly recommend Dewey and the team at LDS Solutions! They have done phenomenal work for us at Wallace Haven LLC clearing downed and dying trees, cleaning up overgrown areas, and helping transform our property. They've been dependable, hardworking, professional, and easy to work with from start to finish.
We couldn't be happier with the work this crew did on our property! They handled land clearing, forestry mulching, brush hogging, and even some skid steer and excavator work. The land clearing and mulching made such a huge difference; it looks like a whole new space now. We'll definitely be using them again!
Hurricane Helene took down many of our trees, preventing us from enjoying our space by the creek. These folks came, developed a plan, reviewed it with me, provided a fair price, and restored my access to the woods and creek. They also left the property spotless once the project was completed. CLEAN!
Dewey came to my home in Shelby. He used his forestry mulcher and cleared my back yard and fence line. He also removed all the roots and vines running up on my house. Before, I could not see my fence or shed. I recommend anyone to use him and his services.
I fought a yard slope for our above ground pool for a few years now. Dewey showed up and solved it all within a day and the grading is top notch. 100% recommended!
Dewey forestry mulched for 11 days. They also excavated and dug out two 24 inch culvert pipes to allow us access on land. Amazing job, highly recommended to anyone needing work done! On time every day and under budget!
These guys do great work at a great price! Thank you!
