Lincoln County woods are mostly oak and hickory, with loblolly pine, sweetgum and red maple filling the gaps. Hardwoods cover about 74 percent of Piedmont timberland. The pines still cause the most calls. They die standing after beetles or a dry summer, and a dead pine sheds limbs long before it falls.
Hurricane Helene came through in September 2024 and left broken tops and leaners across the western counties. Some of those trees are still standing with a crack in them. A sweetgum with half its crown gone, or an oak that heaved its roots on the uphill side, should come down on your schedule instead of its own.
Lincoln County had 86,810 people in 2020 and an estimated 98,654 by 2025. Growth pushes over from the Charlotte side, and tracts that sat idle for years are getting split for homesites. Those lots usually carry a few big trees on the footprint. That is machine work, and it goes fast.
An excavator or skid steer takes the tree at the base and lays it where we want it. The work stays on the ground, and the price per tree drops once there are several. Ground here is Cecil red clay, so after a hard rain we may wait a day for it to firm up before the machines roll in.
The wood leaves with us. Grapple trucks load the trunks, limbs and brush, so the yard is clear when we pull out. If you want firewood, we stack the trunks where you say. What stays behind is a stump cut low to the ground.
We grind stumps below grade on a second trip, or pull them with the roots when the spot will carry a slab or a driveway. Stump grinding once the trees are down is its own visit.
